The epic Beowulf, the graduation exercise national literature of its time, was earlier recited in Old English by bards, or poets. Beowulf is virtually a brave warrior that travels to a land far from seat to turn back an old favor. This old favor is in short completed by slaying a monster where he returns to his homeland, which is modern-day Sweden, where he has to fight another battle. This battle takes puzzle between Beowulf and a dragon, who is angry that a jeweled shape was stolen from him. Wiglaf, a Geat, follows Beowulf on his quest to slay the dragon. During this battle, Wiglaf proves that he is strong, fearless, valiant, and loyal to Beowulf. Beowulf attempts to fight the dragon and soon finds his weapons and harness are no match for the dragon. Beowulfs men soon discern that for the first time ever, their king has been defeated.
